POSITION OVERVIEW
The Putah Creek Council (PCC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and enhancement of Putah Creek and its tributaries through advocacy, education and community-based stewardship.

The Executive Director is responsible, along with the PCC Board, for the overall vision, development and management of the PCC. Overall direction for the work plan of the Executive Director is provided by the PCC Board. The position includes developing new programs and funds, volunteer organizing, field work, program management, grant supervision, hiring and supervising PCC Program employees and interns, and administrative coordination duties.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to:

Develop and manage PCC programs, including strategy, planning, contracts, and budgeting.

Implement the PCC's Community Stewardship Program. Organize volunteers in support of community-based stewardship projects including: trash cleanups; native vegetation plantings, restoration and maintenance; abatement of invasive nonnative species; and restoration of fish and wildlife habitat.

Develop an internship program to support the activities of the PCC. Recruit, train, and supervise interns.

Oversee public outreach programs, including development and distribution of newsletters, maintenance of website and listserve, and media relations.

Develop and maintain working relationships with established groups; assess needs, formulate andimplement support strategies.

Write a fund development plan for the PCC. In conjunction with the board, develop and implement fundraising techniques, seek financial commitments and contributions from individuals, businesses and corporations.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Non-profit organization administration.

Basic watershed management and ecology.

Basic principles and practices relating to habitat restoration.

Competitive grant writing techniques.

Ability to:
Provide leadership and vision in planning for PCC's short and long-term future.

Develop and implement new projects of the PCC, likely related to organizational development, outreach and education.

Recruit, hire, train and supervise employees, interns, and volunteers for the Community Stewardship Program.

Develop the annual operating budget each year in conjunction with the Treasurer and Finance Committee. Work with the treasurer to assure that the PCC's finances are in good order. Identify and cultivate donors and manage fundraising activities.

Experience and Training
The successful candidate will have a combination of education and work experience directly related to the expected knowledge and abilities listed above. For example:

Four years experience in the environmental conservation field, including two years of program administration experience, and one year of fund development work.

A bachelor's degree (master's preferable) from an accredited college or university with course work in environmental science and/or business administration/management.

License, certification, and Personal Background Screening
Possession of a current California driver's license. Possession, or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment, certification in standard first aid and CPR. Must be able to pass background screening that will permit work with school children.

PHYSICAL/SENSORY REQUIREMENTS
Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting, use standard office equipment; vision to read fine printed material and computer screens; ability to hear and communicate verbally in person, and over the telephone; strength to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; mobility to bend, stoop, reach, climb and traverse uneven ground; work in adverse physical and climatic conditions.
