Junior Specialist in Plant-Environment Interactions
Half time position in Wendy Silk’s laboratory
Department of Land, Air, and Water Resources, UC Davis starting in June 2008.
(Possibility to increase to 75 % time after trial period)
Summary:
Assisting projects on plant-environment interactions, perform a variety of routine techniques such as plant cultivation and harvest, chemical analysis, digital photography, spreadsheet data entry, and microscopy.
Principal Responsibilities:
• Under supervision of project director, conduct research on plant growth analysis, nutrient uptake, and associated microbial ecology.
• Meet regularly with project director, and participate in lab meetings and journal clubs, including presentation of data from independent experiments.
• Learn new techniques and conduct experiments
• Organize and maintain supplies, maintain stock nutrient and reagent solutions.
• Ensure all laboratory procedures are done in ordinance with safety guidelines.
• Act as a liaison between members of the lab and other groups as necessary: office staff, maintenance staff, machine shop, and outside vendors.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelors degree in plant or molecular or micro- or cell biology, engineering, environmental science, biochemistry, chemistry or related field.
• Ability to work independently while functioning within an interactive team environment.
