Duties
Major Duties:
Provides technical assistance to agency staff & land managers in 8 Bay Delta counties in CA.
Plans and reviews conservation projects to enhance and restore wildlife habitat and to ensure protection of sensitive species.
Plans, conducts and documents biological studies and assessment for endangered species for projects and actions applied with NRCS technical assistance or USDA funding.
Provides technical assistance and guidance on habitat restoration projects.
Develops and implements resource management plans and practices, writing & processing contract documents and conducts status reviews in accordance with agency guidelines.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
To be eligible for the GS-9 level the applicant must meet the educational qualifications and have 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree in a discipline that provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position OR meet the basic qualifications and have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 level. Examples of experience at the GS-7 level is work experience in the application of principles, concepts and methodology associated with biological science. Responsibilities would have included working independently within a framework of instructions provided by the supervisor on portions of conservation projects to enhance and restore wildlife habitat. The supervisor reviewed the work closely for accuracy and conformance to required procedures.
To qualify for the GS-11 level, applicant must have 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a discipline that provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position or 1 year of specialized experience at the GS-9 level. Examples of specialized experience at the GS-9 level involves practical experience in the application of principles, concepts and methodology associated with biological science. Responsibilities would have included working independently on conservation projects to enhance and restore wildlife habitat, conducting and documenting biological studies and assessments which incorporated ecological principles and laws. The supervisor is available to provide assistance on controversial or unprecedented situations. Work is reviewed for policy compliance and effectiveness of selected approach.
To meet the basic eligibility requirements for the GS-401 General Biological Science series as set forth in the Qualification Standards. Candidates must have a degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

A combination of education and experience – as shown above-Courses equivalent to a major as show above plus appropriate experience or additional education. The nature and quality of this course work must have been such that it would serve as a prerequisite for more advanced study in the field.
