Born December 31, 1925 in Oklahoma City, OK
Moved to Vallejo, CA in 1939 where his father, Ward Cornett, worked at Mare Island Naval shipyard.
Graduated from Vallejo High School June 1944

Drafted in Army June 1944
- Entered 17 weeks of basic training, Camp Roberts, CA
- Attended Jump School at Fort Benning, GA
April 1945 -- Shipped overseas on the Ile de France, from Camp Kilmer, New Jersey
- Port of Embarcatation - New York
- Port of Debarcation - Glascow, Scotland
- (was 2-3 days out when President Roosevelt died)
- Boarded troop train to South Hampton, England to meet boat to La Havre, France.
Served in 82nd Airborne, 508th Division, Headquarters Batallion, Headquarters
Company, 1944-46
- Arrived Essen, Germany Spring 1945 with the XVII (17th) Airborne, 507th as private
- During Ruhr Pocket opertion, the 507th held Alfried Krupp von Bohlen, Jr. prisoner in his Villa Hugel (aka Krupp's Castle) -- now a museum
- Transferred to 82nd Airborne with the 505th to Epinal, France, and then were first American troops into Berlin
- After VE Day, served as Corporal company clerk near Frankfurt/Am Main, Oberursel with 508th
