| Once upon a time,
there was a beautiful and sweet black lab (and golden cross) named
Korina.
It was her job to have puppies
for Canine Companions for Independence. Her puppies lived in the homes
of their puppy raisers and were loved very much! After a year and half,
or so, of training and lots of fun, her puppies will begin advanced
training to become CCI Service Dogs. What a wonderful life they have!
Across from Korina’s house lives a little
girl named Mariyet. Mariyet is ten years old, and loves Korina very much. She
also loves it when Korina has puppies. She visited every week to see the puppies
during the first month when they were very small.
During the second month she visited every
day she could to play with the puppies. One time she even got paid to puppy-sit
while Korina’s mom went to the pet store. Another time she and her friend Muna
worked very hard to help keep the puppies on a bench to take their pictures
(what a hard job that was!)
One day, just before the puppies left to go
to their homes with their puppy raisers, Mariyet came to visit. This time, she
had a large bag, like Santa’s sack. Inside were eight beautifully wrapped
presents! One for each puppy, and for momma Korina! Mariyet, her brother Kevin
and her friend Muna gave each of Korina’s M puppies a present and helped them to
open it.
Mariyet had picked out a squeaky toy for
each puppy that matched its birth order color!
- Maila got a red stuffed bone
toy.
- Makia got a blue stuffed bone
toy.
- Mara got a purple chewy toy.
- Mahi got a green stuffed
heart toy.
- Malana got a bright pink
stuffed dolphin toy.
- Moku got a brown stuffed
doggie toy.
- Mary got a light pink stuffed
kitty toy.
Even Korina had a toy, a little squeaky
golden puppy!
Eight soft squeaky toys for Korina and her
puppies! The puppies took their toys, and thanked Mariyet and her friends by
happily playing with their toys and wagging their tails. Korina too. Korina’s
mom thanked Mariyet very much. Mariyet explained that she wanted each puppy to
take their toy to their new home with their puppy raiser.
And that is the purpose of this Toy Story –
to tell how each of Korina’s M Puppies got a special toy that matched their
color, that has come to you! And the toys, and their puppies, lived happily with
their puppy raisers.
Post Script: The toys were given to the CCI
Breeder Council to send to the Puppy Raisers -- but it may take over 8 weeks to
